Oh gosh, Africa - a continent of contrasts! And no more so than in the amazing range of cuisines that come from all four corners of this vibrant, natural land. And where better to have the tastes, smells and textures of African cooking come to life than on our tasty cookery course at the country’s only dedicated African cooking school: Akhaya.

Located in a grade two listed Old Fire Station, the setting is as gorgeous as the food. These African cooking courses are suitable for all abilities and you will be able to choose one that best reflects your interests, be it: 

Taste of Morocco - using spices and ingredients sourced directly from Marrakech, you will explore the exotic flavours and fragrant undertones of this North African cuisine. 

Taste of Ghana - with flavours such as jollof rice and peanut soup to tantalise your tastebuds, you will use local ingredients to conjure up some unforgettable dishes.

Taste of Nigeria - with a focus on traditional techniques coupled with an in sight into more modern methods, expect to create dishes such as egusi soup with pounded yam and moi-moi, a steamed black eye bean savoury pudding. 

West African Vegetarian Dishes - spice up your vegetarian repertoire with West African cooking methods with its exotic flavours that tingle and tantalise the tastebuds.

East African Vegetarian Dishes - create impressive meals with dishes such as mbazi wa nazi (pigeon peas cooked in a Kenyan style coconut sauce), matoke (Ugandan green banana stew) and mesir war (Ethiopian lentil stew).

Spicing Up Seafood - with dishes such as chermoula prawns with pomegranate cous cous, grilled tilapia in a West African peanut sauce, liboke de poisson - a Congolese style fish cooked in a banana leaf, your seafood meals will never be the same again!

Spicing Up Chicken - there’s no doubting the versatility of chicken, but it can be a bit bland. No more! Not with dishes like poulet yassa (Senegalese style lemon and onion chicken), Kenyan style kuku (guinea fowl) and Sierra Leone pepper chicken, which is served in a delicious peanut and lime sauce.
